Call to action buttons are used in web design to get visitors of the site to do something, to solicit an action. This could be to make a purchase, sign up to the site, or to learn more about the business. A call to action button should fit in with the theme and tone of the website.
Some factors to think about when designing call to action buttons include placement on the site, size of the button and colour of the button and typography. Call to action buttons need to be both visible and accessible in order for the visitor to click onto it. Buttons placed beneath the fold will generally not be seen so they need to be displayed in a prominent position. Whitespace is also an effective concept to use as it will draw the visitors eye as adjacent images are placed further apart.
You can see from the some of the examples below how a call to action button should look. They have been designed with the intention of getting the visitor to make a purchase in mind. A great call to action button should be visible and eye-catching yet not look out of the place with the rest of the elements on the page.
