When you’re designing a product, it’s important to think about how that product appears in all it’s forms. When you’re working on a mobile app, keep in mind that while the user may use your app once or twice each day (if you’re lucky), they’ll be exposed to your app icon potentially hundreds of times on a daily basis. A beautifully designed app icon can be the difference between your app earning it’s place on the home screen, or shuffled off onto a distant page never to be seen again.
Designing a mobile app is a lot like designing a logo – you need to sum up an entire experience, a purpose and an idea in one small image. It needs to be visually pleasing and can either communicate a purpose, an idea or just be a simple, recognisable brand mark.
